The End of the Story that Never Ends
One of the struggles for many new Christians is that everything is not immediately different. In fact, they soon realize that there are still many struggles and battles to be fought. Temptation, sickness, poverty, and difficult relationships are not always instantly better just because we are born again. We spend time reminding our new brothers and sisters that this world is not our true home.
We often remind them of Jesus’ promise from John 14 that he is getting things ready in God’s house and that he will return to take us home. That Jesus is the way, the truth, the life.
Home is the new and perfect heaven and earth. The new city where we will dwell, and in that city is our room.
And we remind them that the owner of the house where we will live is God himself. That He will open the door to heaven and we will see Him face to face. We will look God square in the eye and be welcomed. Welcomed as members of the family, not as guests. Because His name is going to be on our foreheads.
Finally, we remind them of an easy way to see and remember the promises of the heaven to come: the last two chapters in the Bible, Revelation 21 and 22. The first four verses in each chapter. Just remember that. And read them. Often.
It helps with new Christians, but it is a good reminder for all of us.
That the end of the story is really not the end at all.
The story never ends.
